Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,
Semester One student reports were sent out via PAM yesterday. These reports provide you with a record of your child’s achievements throughout the first two terms. Included in the reports are a series of individual comments based on what your child has achieved in the key learning areas and the next steps required in their learning. Teachers use assessment data, work samples and classroom observations to build these comments.
The student reports also include teacher judgements of student achievement based on the Victorian Curriculum achievement standards. These ‘dots’, indicate whether your child is working at, above or below the expected level in each curriculum area for their year level.
Finally, your child’s student report will include ‘dots’ based on their effort and classroom behaviour. Classroom teachers, along with specialist teachers assess the students based on these standards. Dots in these areas may vary across subjects and classes based on your child’s interest in the subject and their willingness to learn.
Please take the time to read your child’s report. Reading the report with your child is a good idea as you can discuss comments with them and provide feedback on what they have achieved and areas for possible improvement.
Parent/Teacher interviews will be held on Tuesday 23rd and Thursday 25th July. These interviews provide an opportunity for parents to further discuss their child’s report and look ahead to Semester Two. Parent/Teacher Interviews will be able to be booked via PAM early next term.
Term 2
Term 2 has been a busy, yet highly successful term. Across the term there have been many highlights. From a Catholic Identity and RE perspective we have celebrated the Sacrament of First Communion. Twenty-seven students from across the parish celebrated the Sacrament, with one of those being from St Patrick’s. The Sacrament of Confirmation was also held this term with three of our Year 6 students celebrating this sacrament. Our weekly Gospel has continued throughout the term and classes have also been involved in class masses. A real highlight for the term was the celebration of the Peace Mass at Catholic College Sale with all the students and staff from across all the Catholic Schools in the Wellington area.
During Catholic Education Week, we held our St Patrick’s Open Days. On these days we opened our school and invited new and existing families into the school to learn more about what we do and see our school in action. The Open days were really well supported, and we have had a large number of future enrolments, which have needed to be managed. Unfortunately, we have not been able to accept all the Foundation enrolments for 2025. Whilst this is disappointing, I’m really proud of what we are achieving here at St Patrick’s, and this is being reflected in the number of families wanting their child/ren to attend the school.
Early in the term our Year 6 students presented the combined primary schools Shakespeare play. The students had practiced and prepared for many weeks and put on a great show. They learnt extensive amounts of lines and delivered these all confidently whilst acting and dancing in front of a large crowd. We are once again proud of what our Year 6 students have achieved.
From a sporting perspective we had several events. Early in the term we had our whole school cross country event. This was a fantastic day, with the students competing hard and demonstrating great sportsmanship. Approximately 36 students progressed from our school cross country, onto the Heyfield and District events and some students have continued to progress through the stages. Two students will compete in the State Cross Country event next term, which is a huge achievement.
Early in the term, some of Year 5 students represented our school at the East Gippsland Lawn Bowls competition, which was held in Bairnsdale. The team played well throughout the day, however missed out on making the finals by 1 point.
Recently, our Year 5/6 students participated in the Heyfield and District Winter Sport Competition in football, netball and soccer. Our football team has progressed through to the Wellington Division competition after winning all their games. Our netball and soccer teams tried hard and achieved mixed results throughout the day.
A challenge throughout the term has been managing unwell staff and students. This is always a challenge through the Winter months, and I hope that everyone has a restful break and returns fit and healthy for the start of Term 3.
School will finish today at 2:30pm for all students.
Kind regards,
Joel

Children can be vulnerable road users and all adults are reminded to observe all road rules and take care around the school.
Look - Be vigilant Children are small and can be unpredictable. It is up to us as adults to look out for the children. |
Park in the right place No standing zones and parking zones are there for everyone’s safety. Please park in the correct zones. |
Slow Down The zone around St. Patrick’s (although not signed) is 40 km hour – this is the law. And go easy on the u-turns near the school! |
Stay OFF Mobile Phones It is illegal to drive while using a mobile phone. It also puts the children’s safety at risk if you aren’t paying attention. |
Use the crossing & Give way to pedestrians |
Take Your Time Please don't rush! |
For the safety of all students and pedestrians - Pick up and drop off is Dixon Street and Blackburn Street.
Do not use Merrick St.
Thank-you for your co-operation.

Some great sentence writing from Lylah and Jaxon.
Great writing from Lewis Ronchi-Power!
As part of our R.E unit, last week Foundation, Year One and Two students were lucky enough to be joined in the Church by Father Aneesh to learn about Baptism and being welcomed into the Church and God's family.
Interesting tid-bits from Literacy Intervention! From Emma Morrison
When you are listening to your child read, are you viewing the text? Doing so will improve the outcomes of this precious time together.
This helps to ensure accuracy is being achieved. Children are skilled at skipping or replacing unknown words, and a learning opportunity is missed.
Focusing on ensuring each word is being read correctly is a huge step towards skilled reading.
BOOKWEEK NEWS
BOOKWEEK Monday 19th - Friday 23rd August, 2024
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Next term we will be celebrating BOOKWEEK and the library is slowly getting ready for this fun annual event.
BOOKFAIR is held in the library and there will be a large range of books and novelty items for sale. This is always very popular and we earn commission from the sales to purchase new books for our library.
We also have a dress-up parade where students dress up as a book character or something to match our theme which is ‘Reading is Magic’. This is a great fun event enjoyed by the students, staff and families every year.
I will provide more details early next term.
Happy Holidays
