What's Happening at St Patrick's

STEM NEWS

In Foundation, Year One and Two students listened to a story called the 'Leaf Thief'. Students embarked on a drawing challenge to change the shape of the leaf into something completely different. They changed these shapes into fish, bee hive, sauce, batman and hoverboards. Their creativity was encouraged and this challenged many students to think differently. The second lesson involved them cutting the leaf shapes out and creating a new picture (that isnt a leaf).
In Classes 3-6 Students have now finished their dioramas. Have a look at how terrific they look! Their hard work in researching, gathering materials and making these fantastic environments has been outstanding! Well done!

Some great sentence writing from Lylah and Jaxon.

Great writing from Lewis Ronchi-Power!

As part of our R.E unit, last week Foundation, Year One and Two students were lucky enough to be joined in the Church by Father Aneesh to learn about Baptism and being welcomed into the Church and God's family.

Interesting tid-bits from Literacy  Intervention!    From Emma Morrison

When you are listening to your child read, are you viewing the text?  Doing so will improve the outcomes of this precious time together.

This helps to ensure accuracy is being achieved.  Children are skilled at skipping or replacing unknown words, and a learning opportunity is missed.

Focusing  on ensuring each word is being read correctly is a huge step towards skilled reading.

BOOKWEEK  Monday 19th - Friday 23rd August, 2024

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Next term we will be celebrating BOOKWEEK and the library is slowly getting ready for this fun annual event.

BOOKFAIR is held in the library and there will be a large range of books and novelty items for sale. This is always very popular and we earn commission from the sales to purchase new books for our library.

We also have a dress-up parade where students dress up as a book character or something to match our theme which is ‘Reading is Magic’. This is a great fun event enjoyed by the students, staff and families every year.

I will provide more details early next term.

Happy Holidays
