Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,
On Sunday, three St Patrick’s students, Matilda Dower, Paige Fischer and Kobi Scicluna, celebrated the Sacrament of Confirmation. The Sacrament of Confirmation continues, strengthens, confirms and celebrates the gifts of the Holy Spirit received in Baptism.
We were blessed to have Bishop Greg Bennet confer the sacrament. During the Sacrament of Confirmation, the bishop laid his hands on the baptised person and prayed that the Holy Spirit would fill the candidates with spiritual gifts. Then, using holy oil, he made a cross on their forehead.
It is usual for the person being confirmed to take on an extra name, that of a particular saint. The saint will be a source of inspiration by the way he or she lived life while on earth.
(Matilda, Paige and Kobi, along with Alana Murphy and Bishop Greg)
Matilda chose the name Saint Adelaide of Italy. She was the empress of Rome and lost her husband at an early age. She went on to marry Otto the Great, and had many children. Adelaide is the patron saint of abuse victims, second marriages, step-parents and widows. Adelaide was a powerful religious leader and is responsible for embedding Christianity in the culture of Central Europe.
Paige and Kobi both chose Saint Brigid of Kildare. Brigid is the patron saint of many things, including, poets, midwives, newborns, blacksmith, dairymaids, chicken farmers, cattle scholars and many more. Saint Brigid is one of the most recognised saints in Ireland, along with St Patrick.
We congratulate Matilda, Paige and Kobi on celebrating their Confirmation and taking the next step in their faith journey.
Sale Art Gallery Excursion
On Friday, our Year 3-6 students went on an excursion to the Sale Art Gallery. Whilst they were there, they had a look at the Anna Mieke-Mein exhibition, participated in an art session and learnt about the Gunnai Kurnai creation story called Borun and Tuk.
Anna Mieke Mein is a local artist who has drawn acclaim nationally and from abroad for her vivid recreations of Australian native flora and fauna. The subjects of her sculpted textiles range from birds, frogs and fish, through to insects such as moths, dragonflies, wasps and grasshoppers. The students were thoroughly engaged in the exhibition and many people commented on how well-behaved the students were.
Following our time at the Art Gallery, we visited the Fauna Park. While we were at the park, the students visited Nakunbalook Environmental and Cultural Education Centre. Nakunbalook is a Gunaikurnai name meaning 'Grandfather Gumtree', which represents knowledge and place. As a part of the STEM program, the students also looked for, drew and collected insects from the botanic gardens.
The students had a fabulous day out and learnt a lot.
Kind regards,
Joel.

LIBRARY NEWS
National Simultaneous Storytime 2024.
Next Wednesday, St Patrick’s will participate in the annual National Simultaneous Storytime. This initiative by ALIA (Australian Library and Information Association), encourages the enjoyment of reading and each year there is a different picture book chosen to represent NSS. Bowerbird Blues by Aura Parker is this year’s book.
“When we read together it helps language development, learning and literacy, all while building community. It’s also a lot of fun.” said ALIA Acting CEO Trish Hepworth.
We look forward to listening in on Wednesday at 12 noon knowing approximately 2 million children in Australia, New Zealand and around the world are enjoying Bowerbird Blues being read to them at the same time.
