Dear Parent, Guardians and Carers,
Welcome back to the start of Term 2. I hope that you all had an enjoyable Easter holiday period and were able to relax and spend some time together as a family. The students have all had a great start to the term. They have been really engaged in the classroom and have been producing some great work.
Cross Country
On Thursday, we had our St Patrick’s Cross Country event at the Knob. This is always a fabulous event, and this year was no different, with the students thoroughly enjoying the day. It was great to see so many parents, family members and friends attend, to watch and cheer the children on. We are very lucky to be able to utilise the Knob as our venue, as this provides a fabulous cross country venue. Throughout the day, our senior students ran approximately 3km, our middle school ran 2km and our juniors 1km. Throughout the day, students are awarded points for their House Team, depending on their finishing position. This year there was a very close result in the overall House winner competition. The results were:
- Equal 1st – MacKillop and Ryan – 68 points
- 3rd – Brice – 64 points
The students should all be really proud of their efforts and the way that they participated, demonstrating great determination and sportsmanship. Students from our senior and middle school compete for Age Champion medals. Our Age Champions this year were:
- 12 & Under Boys – Cooper Marsden
- 12 & Under Girls – Tenesha Fieldsend
- 11 & Under Boys – Max Bartlett
- 11 & Under Girls – Mila McLeod
- 10 & Under Boys – Charlie McKinley
- 10 & Under Girls – Stella Marsden
- 9 & Under Boys – Bam Barberio
- 9 & Under Girls – Esther Ronchi-Power
First Communion and Youth Mass
This Saturday evening at 5:30pm at the Cathedral in Sale, Catholic students from our local schools will be celebrating the Sacrament of First Communion. Lexie Fischer will be a part of this celebration. This Saturday evening mass is also a Youth Mass. All families are invited to come along and join in the combined celebration of First Communion and the Youth Mass.
Lawn Bowls
On Monday, St Patrick’s has a team of Year 5 students competing in the East Gippsland Division Lawn Bowls Final in Bairnsdale. Our Year 5 students have had several practice sessions throughout Term 1 and the start of this term and are excited and ready to take on this challenge. St Patrick’s has never had a team enter the lawn bowls competition, so this is an exciting new adventure. We wish Charlie Gartung, Charlie McKinley, Max Bartlett, Riley Bartlett, Will Longmuir and Koby Dorning all the best and look forward to hearing how they go.
ANZAC Day
Next Thursday 25th April, we commemorate ANZAC Day. ANZAC Day is the anniversary of the day when Australian and New Zealand soldiers landed at Gallipoli in 1915. Like in previous years, St Patrick’s will once be involved in the Stratford ANZAC Day March and Ceremony. All students are invited to attend the event. Students who are able to attend must assemble at the corner of Tyers and Blackburn Streets (Endeavour Service Station) at 8:20am. Students attending are asked to wear their full winter school uniform. Following the ANZAC Day March and Ceremony, families are invited to attend morning tea in the hall afterwards.
We have had a positive response from students and families in the past and hope lots of students participate again this year.
School Closure Day
Next Friday 26th April is a school closure day for all students. This is a Time in Lieu (TIL) day for all staff so there won’t be anyone onsite on this day.
Uniform
Throughout Term 2 and Term 3, all students are to wear winter uniform. As in previous years, we will allow a two-week transition period. During this time, students can wear their summer or winter uniform, depending on the weather. From the start of Week 3, Monday 29th April, all students are expected to wear their full winter uniform.

Caritas Fundraising
During the Church season of Lent, our school Mission leaders did a fabulous job in leading fundraising activities such as a colouring competition, selling icy-poles and the ‘Lolly Jar ‘ competition. We are pleased to say that our school raised approximately $ 700 that will go to the Catholic agency Caritas Australia. The money is used for initiatives to empower the needy people in our world hence enacting Catholic Social Teaching Principles :
- Preferential Option For the Poor- The needs of poor and vulnerable people should be put first.
- Solidarity- God created us as one global family called to support our brothers and sisters.
We thank our Mission Leaders for putting their leadership into action for the benefit of our global family.
