Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,
Council has received a few complaints from residents of the Shire regarding dangerous road crossings near schools (adults and children), road use near school and reckless activities near and on school crossings. As we continue to prioritise the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and community, it is imperative that we address certain concerns regarding traffic and pedestrian safety around our school premises.
- Speeding is Not Acceptable Near a School: Speeding vehicles pose a significant threat to the safety of our students and pedestrians. We urge all drivers to adhere to the posted speed limits, especially in school zones. Excessive speed reduces reaction time and increases the likelihood of accidents, particularly in areas where children are present. Please be mindful of your speed and drive cautiously, especially during peak drop-off and pick-up times.
- Correct Use of School Crossings at All Times:Our designated school crossing is in place to provide a safe passage for students and pedestrians. It is crucial for everyone to use this crossing correctly and responsibly. Students should be instructed to cross only at the designated school crossing and to cross when safe to do so. In the afternoon when the crossing is staffed by teachers, students and pedestrians should wait for the teacher’s signal before proceeding. Drivers must also be vigilant and yield to pedestrians at all marked crossings.
- Crossing the Street Safely: Teaching children proper pedestrian safety is essential for their well-being. Parents and or guardians, please take the time to educate your children on safe pedestrian practices, including looking both ways before crossing the street, using crosswalks whenever possible, and making eye contact with drivers before stepping onto the road. Additionally, encourage older students to serve as role models by following these safety guidelines themselves.
For safety reasons, please do not use Merrick Street entrance to drop off and pick up students at the commencement of the day and end of the day.
By working together as a community and prioritising safety, we can create a secure environment for everyone. Let us all remain vigilant and committed to ensuring the well-being of our students both in and around the school premises.
2024 Year 6 Leadership Positions
Over the past few weeks, we have been involved in the process of electing our Year 6 leaders for 2024. For School Captain, Year 6 students were invited to self-nominate and write an application letter to myself. From here, students were interviewed by myself and Miss Napolitano, where we shortlisted the 9 applicants to 4. These 4 students then prepared and read a speech to the Year 5 and 6 students. All Year 5 and 6 students, along with staff, then voted on their preferred School Captain. Our 2024 School Captains, as elected by the students and staff are:
Sonny Pendrick and Chloe Halligan.
I would like to congratulate both Sonny and Chloe on being elected and know that they will both be fabulous leaders throughout the year. I would also like to thank all the unsuccessful applicants, who did an amazing effort with their application letter, interview and speech. You should all be really proud of yourselves.
The process of electing House Captains was slightly different. Once again, students self-nominated themselves for the position, however from here, the students simply went ahead and prepared and presented a speech to the Grade 3-6 students and staff. The students then voted for their top two candidates from their house, whilst the staff voted for students across all houses. Our elected 2024 House Captains are:
Brice – Tenesha Fieldsend and Matilda Dower
MacKillop – Josh Morton and Emerson Harper
Ryan – Bruce Sears and Peace-Lilly Fitton
We also have 16 Year 6 students who have self-nominated to be a Liturgy Leader in 2024. The Liturgy Leaders help out and lead our weekly Gospel, whilst also driving our Catholic Identity through coordinating social justice events and fundraisers. I would like to congratulate and thank the following students who are our 2024 Liturgy Leaders: Jaxon Rawson, Cooper Marsden, Sonny Pendrick, Emerson Harper, Alicia Cable, Tenesha Fieldsend, Peace-Lilly Fitton, Josh Morton, Bruce Sears, Amber Rigby, Paige Fischer, Kobi Scicluna, Kate Bartlett, Jenson Kerton, Isabelle Venables and Lilly Dean.
Student Representative Council (SRC)
Our Year 3-6 Student Representative Council (SRC) candidates also presented speeches to their year levels this week. Two students from each year level will be elected by their peers to become a member of the 2024 SRC. The successful candidates will be announced in our next newsletter.
Shakespeare Festival Combined Schools Year 6 Performance
Last Friday, Christabel, the new director of the Shakespeare Festival Combined Schools Year 6 Performance, visited St Patrick’s. Christabel is passionate about performing arts and is excited by the opportunity to work with our Year 6 students. During her visit, Christabel introduced herself and the play for this year and engaged the students in some fun drama activities. On Wednesday, the Year 6 students attended the Mechanics Hall for auditions. For the audition, they had to sing Happy Birthday, dance the Macarena and play various drama games. The Year 6’s have shown great interest and enthusiasm in the play and we look forward to watching their performance in early May.
St Patrick’s Easter Raffle
Today we had a casual clothes day where we sought donations of Easter eggs and gifts for our Annual Easter Raffle. Thank you to all those families that brought in a donation for our raffle. We really appreciate your support of our raffle. Donations can continue to be made right up until the last week of term.
This week, all families should have received a raffle book. Families are not expected to purchase all of the tickets themselves. Please reach out to other family members, friends, work colleagues and community members to purchase tickets and support our school’s fundraising efforts.
P&F Fundraising
Last year our P&F work really hard to help raise funds for our school. These fundraising efforts enabled us to purchase new school football and netball uniforms. The new uniforms arrived recently and will be worn at the Winter Sports competitions by our Year 5 and 6 students.

For safety and accountability reasons, visitors and late/early arrivals are required to sign in and out at the front office. The Ipad is located at the front desk and allows this to be done quickly and easily.
Children arriving late or leaving early are to be signed in upon arrival or out when leaving. (This includes when returning to school from appointments).
To minimise interruption to learning time, we would appreciate if apppointments for children be kept to a minimum during school time.
If your child has an appointment during school times, as a courtesy, please email your child's teacher.

3rd Instalment due by Friday 25th October 2024.
If paying by EFT, you will find our bank account details on the top right hand corner of your statement. Please use your name and account number as reference.
If you wish to adjust your direct debit, please contact the school office.
For families who are not on a direct debit payment arrangement, 1st Instalment of school fees is due on Friday 26th April 2024.
CAMPS SPORTS EXCURSION FUNDING (CSEF)
Camps, Sports and Excursion Fund (CSEF) will be provided by the Victorian Government to assist eligible families to cover the cost of camps and sporting activities. If you hold a valid means tested concession card, you may be eligible for CSEF.
Thank-you to families who have returned their forms.
Please note: CSEF Funding will be applied to eligible families shortly.
