Dear Parents, Guardians and Carers,
This Wednesday, we welcomed our 2024 Foundation students to St Patrick’s for their first transition morning. This transition morning, along with the two following sessions, allow the new Foundation students to familiarise themselves with St Patrick’s and support them with making their transition from Kinder to school a successful one.
Throughout the first session, our 2024 Foundation students had some time to interact with each other through structured play-based activities. Following this, the students listened to the story ‘Where is the Green Sheep?’ This led the new Foundation students on a tour around the school, trying to find the green sheep. After looking everywhere around the school, and familiarising themselves with where things are, the new Foundation students found the green sheep back in the Foundation classroom. The children then completed a green sheep craft activity, which they got to take home. To finish the session the children had a play on the playground.
Despite their being a couple of nervous faces entering the school for this transition, the new Foundation children had a highly successful session and I’m sure that they will all be looking forward to coming back next week for session number two.
Whilst the new Foundation students had their transition morning, I met with their parents for an Information Session. During this session, I spoke to the parents about the importance of the Family/School Partnership in supporting children to reach their full potential. I also spoke about our key priorities as a school and how we are leading the way, especially in the area of expert teacher practice in Literacy. I also discussed, the important role parents play in preparing their child for school. Other areas that were discussed were the Whole School Approach to Positive Behaviour Support, including our School Wide Expectations and our Consequences Framework; Parent/Teacher Communication and Catholic Identity and Religious Education. Parents also had an opportunity to ask any questions. The session went really well and hopefully the parents gained a lot of valuable information.
Kind regards,
Joel
