WHAT'S HAPPENING AT ST. PATRICK'S
STEM NEWS
In STEM from classes F-2, we have been exploring parts of animals that are unique and help them to survive. This week we looked at matching their footprint. Discussions were around animals that can run fast to get away from predators, animals that catch their prey with their feet, and others that can climb or swim with their feet shape.

In classes 3-6 students have been making observations about their mould experiments. Students have made use of Google Slides to take notes and add photos to their observations to see the change of their experiment.
Students in the upper classes are focussing on microorganisms as living things, for example what conditions does bread, fungi and mushrooms grow?
If you’re on a nature walk and see some fungi growing, discuss why it’s growing there.

In STEM this week students have continued researching microorganisms. These can only be seen under a microscope, so investigations and experiments are helping us understand how these grow and survive in certain conditions. This week and next week we are making bread and watching it grow.
Try this at home and discuss why it grows in a warm area and not in the fridge. What feeds the microorganism and how do you know its living?
In the junior classes we have been measuring our arm span and looking at the wingspan of a bird. Students are looking at how parts of animals and their adaptations help them survive.
Happy STEM learning!

Excursion to The Wedge
Our foundations, year 1 and year 2 students enjoyed an afternoon out at The Wedge in Sale.
The students thoroughly enjoyed the performance of 'Imagine' by popular children's author, Alison Lester.
