What's Happening at St Patrick's

On the 5th of December, Mr. Brayshaw, Ms. Smith, Chloe, and Sonny went to Marley Street Community Hub to donate bags on behalf of Share the Dignity. Share the Dignity is an Australia-wide charity that aims to stop period poverty. Every year at Christmas, they run a drive called “It’s in the Bag,” where people donate bags filled with essentials for women in crisis to help give them a little dignity.
This initiative is closely linked to our Religious Education (RE) unit on Catholic Social Teaching, which encourages us to live out the values of compassion, respect for human dignity, and solidarity. Through our actions, we are reminded of the Church's call to support those in need, especially women and families facing difficult circumstances.
We began by putting the call out to our Grade Five and Six families to bring in donations. Then, we held a packing party, where we came together and organised the items into categories for different needs. The bags contained essentials like shampoo, soap, sanitary items, toiletries, and things for mums with younger kids, such as baby items and items for young teenagers. We had so many donations, and in total, our school donated 39 bags!
Rae Ellis, the Marley Street Community Hub manager, was extremely grateful for the donations and offered us a tour of the facility. When talking to Rae about the recipients of the bags, she explained how much they mean to them, and how receiving a bag often reduces people to tears.
Thank you to all our families who donated to this great cause! Your generosity truly reflects the spirit of Catholic Social Teaching in action.
