Principal's Message
Dear Parent, Guardians and Carers,
We have had a number of special events and activities happen at St Patrick’s over the past few weeks.
Stomp Dance Incursion
On Tuesday, 23rd May we had Sarah from Stomp Dance conduct a dance class with the students. Each of the students participated in a 30-minute session, where they learnt a choreographed dance. The students were really engaged throughout the session and appeared to enjoy themselves. We are looking at having Stomp Dance return in 2024 to work with the students over the course of a week, culminating in a Parent Presentation at the end of the week.
St Patrick’s Open Days
On Wednesday, 24th and Thursday, 25th May we had our St Patrick’s Open Days. On these days we opened our school and welcomed families to find out more about our school and have a look at our classrooms and facilities. To begin each of our Open Days, we had an information session that provided families with an insight into our school. Following the information session, our Grade 6 students took individual families on a tour of the school. As always, the Grade 6 students took this role very seriously and the feedback from families was that they did an amazing job. We had many new and existing families attend our Open Days and once again we will have a large intake of Foundation students in 2024.
Peace Mass
On Friday, 26th May the whole school attended the Peace Mass in Bishop Phelan Stadium at Catholic College Sale. Staff and students from Catholic College Sale, St Mary’s Sale, St Thomas’ Sale, St Mary’s Maffra, St Michael’s Heyfield, St Mary’s Yarram and St Patrick’s attended the mass. In all there would have been close to 2000 people in attendance. The Peace Mass began in 2003 as a response to the Bali bombings that occurred the previous year. The intention of the Peace Mass is for schools to come together and pray for peace in our world. Due to the COVID pandemic, we have unfortunately been unable to hold the Peace Mass for the past 3 years. Being able to come together again this year and celebrate mass together was fantastic and planning has already begun for this to be held again next year.
Sacrament of Confirmation
On Sunday, 28th May, Patrick Shaw and Jamieson McNicol celebrated the
Sacrament of Confirmation at the Cathedral in Sale. During the Sacrament of Confirmation, the candidates renew their Baptismal promises that their Godparents made for them. Through Confirmation, the candidates also receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit and are anointed with oil. Congratulations to Patrick and Jamieson on taking this next step in their faith journey.
Gippsland Region Cross Country
On Thursday, 1st June, nine St Patrick’s students competed at the Gippsland Region Cross Country event in Drouin. Competing against the best cross country runners in Gippsland, the students did an amazing job. I would especially like to congratulate Max and Jack Bartlett on their achievements. Max finished 5th in the 10 and Under Boys event whilst Jack finished 6th in the 12 and Under Boys event. Max and Jack will now compete at the State Cross Country event and compete against the best runners from right across Victoria.
Heyfield and District Winter Sports
On Friday, 2nd June, our Grade 5/6 students competed in the Heyfield and District Winter Sports. The students competed in Football, Netball and Soccer. St Patrick’s had a successful day with the football team and the mixed netball team going through the day undefeated and qualifying for the next stage of the competition. I congratulate everyone on their participation and the great sportsmanship that they demonstrated on the day.
Enjoy your extra long weekend!
Kind regards,
Joel
