Project Rockit
5/6 Project Rockit
St Patrick's Primary School recently had an incursion workshop from Project Rockit. Project Rockit is an organisation that was first discovered in 2006, who go around to schools to do workshops and teach life lessons. Their mission is to make kids feel safe around their friends, at home and at school. They also have a YouTube account with videos on how to handle friendship dramas, bullying and values, which we have been exploring in class.
Our main focus today was ‘to be a part of the solution and not the problem’. They broke this quote up for us over our period of time, they acted out a situation of how you can stand up for someone, even if it's someone that you don't feel comfortable standing up to. We learnt, if you don't want to be a part of the problem or the solution you are automatically a part of the problem. To make this world a different place you have to be a part of the solution to fix the problem.
Our presenters, Ella and Carly wanted to make sure that we felt 100% comfortable around them by telling us embarrassing stories of their own to encourage us to open up about our problems to be discussed. They shared people's personal stories as an example to teach us on how to recognise behaviours that we both agree with or disagree with.
As members of the Grade 5/6 team, we very much enjoyed this experience and have taken home lots of skills from these sessions. Knowing that we have quotes that will stick by us for life and guide us through our friendships is reassuring. Some of our favourite quotes from Ella and Carly were; “People's differences make them unique” and “Make choices knowing the consequences.”
